Into the Wild: A Birding Journey in Amatopo

Amatopo Rainforest Retreat offers bird enthusiasts the opportunity to participate in a carefully curated birding expedition in one of the most pristine regions of Suriname. We will work with you to create a program focused on observing and documenting the local birdlife. Our experienced guides will guide you meticulously and share their in-depth, locally acquired knowledge of species, behavior, and habitats.

The area around Amatopo is known for its exceptional diversity. Here you can observe the Amazonian motmot, the characteristic red-capped cardinal native to this region, the rare hoatzin, as well as numerous hummingbirds and various macaw species. New sightings are recorded daily on the resort grounds. From Amatopo, we venture further into the forest via quiet trails and by boat on the river, to areas where human presence is virtually absent and nature dictates the rhythm.

Please contact us via the contact form or WhatsApp so we can discuss all your wishes and tailor your trip to your needs!

Birdwatchers participating in this expedition record an average of between 130 and 160 bird species in and around Amatopo Rainforest Retreat. Dutch and German birdwatchers have already experienced this experience and particularly appreciate the expert guidance, attention to detail, and personal approach that characterizes this birdwatching trip
